THIS IS NOT A POP SONG
Video thrills the audio track with the wraparound optics.
In collaboration with video artist Stephen Jones ala Severed Heads (1982-1992) whom resurrected his self-constructed analogue video synthesizer from that period in a reversal of the “rolling new” to plunge into the memory of older tech explorations – a progress of reciprocity whereby “the offerings of the engineer could inspire the artist as much as the needs of the artist could inspire the engineer.” Fractal to the future.

Imagine the fashion of Beilharz, bathed in our sweat, then squeezed through the circuits of Stephen Jones’  visual synth, excavated and reanimated after a long hibernation in the 80s dust of his basement. – Quan

STEPHEN JONES
“I am a cyberneticist and a systems theorist. I am interested in feedback. As I talk about it in my book [Synthetics], there are several layers of memory in the video. Video, as described by Daniel Palmer is “a medium without a memory”, but in fact video is a medium of memory. And there are layers of memory. I more or less put it in three layers. There is the eidetic which is the immediate, which is feedback. Then there is the feedback you get when you play back the tape just after you’ve shot it so that you can show the people in the workshop how they were performing, and then there’s the historical record type of feedback. So you have these larger and larger scales of feedback circularity.” (www.meigh-andrews.com/writings/interviews/stephen-jones)

Three videos that come from an invitation by Metro TV in Sydney to demonstrate Stephen Jones’s analogue video synthesizer at a seminar weekend called “Future Screen”. His synth was installed into Metro’s control room above the main studio and we did a two camera plus feedback and synth recording with the Cox vision mixer in the suite.
