Consume once again has collaborated with the gallery on formulating this March UP LATE music series for the WATER exhibition.

Up Late returns to Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) over two spectacular nights in March 2020 with sets by leading Australian musicians and DJs, pop-up performances, science activations, bars, dining and more!Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Director Chris Saines said Water Up Late would run from 6.00-10.30pm on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 March, 2020 and include performances by singer-songwriter and environmental activist Montaigne, experimental jazz four-piece Mildlife and legendary Brisbane musician Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens.Tamsin Cull, Head of Public Engagement, QAGOMA said over both evenings audiences to Water Up Late could gather outside GOMA at the Maiwar Green stage, where DJs, live music and interactive science pop-ups would entertain audiences of all ages.‘Visitors can also experience GOMA’s major summer exhibition ‘Water’ featuring almost 100 contemporary works such as Olafur Eliasson’s vast rocky landscape Riverbed 2014, Fischli and Weiss’ Snowman 1987/2017-19 and William Forsythe’s interactive installation of gymnasium rings The Fact of Matter 2009 brought to life by contemporary circus performance group Casus,’ Ms Cull said.The opening act for Water Up Late will be an energising performance by South Sudanese popstar Gordon Koang, followed by a fierce, politically charged R&B and gospel set by proud Pitjantjatjara/Torres Strait Islander singer-songwriter, Miiesha, with the night rounded out by Montaigne.

On Saturday 21 March, Adrian Eagle will bring his infectious reggae-inspired rhythms to centre stage, along with the gritty electro and hip hop inspired beats of Brisbane solo artist LÂLKA. Later that evening Water Up Late will culminate with a must-see performance by Robert Forster with a set of iconic water-related songs from his catalogue.

People who love to sing in the shower can indulge themselves in the Bathroom Beats: Shower Karaoke pop-up presented by Urban Utilities, major partner for ‘Water’. Featuring water-related hits that run no longer than four minutes, the pop-up encourages you to save both water and money.

Water Up Late audiences can also enjoy the Science+Chill Lounge outside GOMA and witness awesome presenters and playful science experiments with a twist. It’s a space to sit back and relax as science broadcasters, delightful nerds and sci-comedians Joel Gilmore & Lee Constable entertain!

A pop superstar and household name in South Sudan, Gordon Koang has had a prolific career. After releasing ten albums and touring the world, he continues to spread a message of ‘peace, hope and unity’ through his dance floor style. In 2014, he fled South Sudan’s civil war, arriving in Australia to seek asylum. Since then, his unique performances have won over the Australian music industry, receiving Levi’s Music Prize at BIGSOUND and five nominations at the Music Victoria Awards in 2019. This year, Gordon Koang will release a brand new album, the first to be recorded entirely in Australia with local musicians.

Brisbane-based quintet Topology are recognised for their thought-provoking original work and collaborations across diverse genres and art forms. Since 1997, Topology have released 15 albums, presented an award-winning concert series and have toured extensively nationally and internationally.

Art-pop singer-songwriter Montaigne is known for her soaring voice, captivating performance style and strong social conscience. In 2016, her debut album Glorious Heights reached number 4 on the ARIA music charts and received an ARIA Music Award for Breakthrough Artist Release. Her latest album Complex (2019) features the politically driven single ‘Ready’, an anthem that champions action against the climate crisis.
MIIESHA – 9.30PM Fri 20 Mar 2020 GOMA | River Room
Miiesha is a proud Pitjantjatjara/Torres Strait Islander singer-songwriter, hailing from the small Aboriginal community of Woorabinda, Queensland. Known for her fierce, politically charged RnB and gospel inspired music, at only 20 years old she has already scored a record label contract with EMI. She hopes to educate and inspire, sending out a powerful message about her community to the world.
DJ | Boom Boom Bean Selecta – 6.00PM Fri 20 Mar 2020 GOMA | River Room
Boom Boom Bean Selecta is the feline alter-ego of Leonie Rhodes, an established street artist who hails from South East London. They have become well known for deep, gritty and transformative dance floor experiences. Live all night during Up Late, from 6pm.

DJ | Sweaty Baby 6.00PM Fri 20 Mar 2020 GOMA | Maiwar Green
Thomas Parer (aka DJ Sweaty Baby) is the founder of the monthly queer dance party, ‘Shandy’. He is inspired by an eclectic mix of genres, with a soft spot for disco, house, pop, and hip hop. Live all night during Up Late, from 6pm.
MILDLIFE – 7.00PM Sat 21 Mar 2020 GOMA | Maiwar Green
Melbourne-based four-piece Mildlife are known for their tight performances, combining a fusion of kraut, jazz, and psych-style space disco. In 2018, their debut album Phase gained international critical acclaim, and they have since toured the globe dazzling a worldwide audience with their mesmerising performances.LÂLKA – 7.45PM Sat 21 Mar 2020 GOMA | River Room
LÂLKA is a Brisbane-based musician, songwriter, vocalist and producer. Combining gritty electro beats, hip hop influences and PC-music vibes, she is known for her unique style. World renowned Brisbane singer-songwriter Robert Forster has always had an affinity to the theme of water trickling, flowing and falling through his songs. From early Go-Betweens songs like ‘The Sound Of Rain’ (1978), to the joyous remembering of his Brisbane youth in ‘Spring Rain’ (1986), and to the memorable image of ‘Rain Falling on the Moon’ from his recent solo album Inferno (Brisbane In Summer) (2019). For Water Up Late, Forster has selected a unique series of songs from his catalogue to do with all things water. He and his five piece band will perform them in an exclusive one-off ‘Water Songs’ performance, with the Brisbane river as a backdrop.ADRIAN EAGLE – 9.30PM Sat 21 Mar 2020 GOMA | River Room
Adrian Eagle is a gifted singer-songwriter with an inspiring story, an amazing voice and infectious aura of positivity. Adrian’s soulful, reggae influenced hip-hop has been on high rotation on Triple J, and in 2019 his uplifting single ‘AOK’ was nominated for the ARIA Music Award for Best Soul/R&B Release. By sharing his own battles with mental illness, he hopes to inspire others.
DJ | Paolo – 6.00PM Sat 21 Mar 2020 GOMA | River Room
Local veteran DJ Paolo is behind the long-running mid-century party series ‘Watch Your Step’, and more recently, ‘Zig Zag Discotheque’. His music runs the groove gamut from the classic underrated beat, garage, funk, soul, and R&B selections for which he has become known, to contemporary funk-inflected house and neo-soul. Live all night during Up Late, from 6pm.
DJ | Hannah D – 6.00PM Sat 21 Mar 2020 GOMA | Maiwar Green
Owner of Brisbane based music collective The Space Between Us, Hannah debuted her DJ skills in a warm up set for DJ Slyngshot last year. Since then, her eclectic sets have graced the stage at Jungle Love Festival, and as support for a number of international acts. Live all night during Up Late, from 6pm.
